	Senegal

Since February 2000, AAMI is collaborating with the Association A.S.E.M. of M'Boro sur mer, Senegal, founded with the assistance of Mr Jean Delattre, President of AAMI, Geneva, Switzerland.

For several years now, a nurse from France, having taken her retirement, has come to settle in M'Boro and is taking care of a health care center with the help of other French charitable associations and donations from some friends. The center provides a moral and social assistance to the local population, free medical care according to each case. The center is very well acclaimed by the local people who are constantly facing all sorts of problems and have rarely the means to offer themselves a medical treatment.

Christine equally provides the first tools for education of the youth and adults, women empowerment tools, by giving a training for sewing etc…giving some first training on elementary hygiene to the young mothers. A strong bond has been created between the local population and the volunteers of the association.

During August 2002, a group of medical students from the Faculty of Marseille, France, on the recommendation of Jean Delattre, went to M'Boro, bringing with them various medicines and medical equipment. They collaborated for one month with Christine in the health care center, as well as in other benevolent centers of the region. Before departing for France, they made a financial donation to ASEM. This money was to be used to build the hall which will be used for women empowerment activities. This experience will certainly be repeated during 2003.

A.A.M.I. will continue to monitor the progress of this sector, and will assist as far as it can, to develop social projects which will come across.
